SUMMARY:Singapore & South East Asian Pipe Band Championships 2023
DESCRIPTION:The Super Mini Contest\nRules & Regulations\nThese Rules & Regulations are unique to this contest and although some are similar to other Mini Band rules\, in various parts of the world\, they should not be confused with such. \n\nBands and Mini Entries\n\nFor the purpose of identification the word “BAND” will apply to the registered entity\, with a recognised Pipe Band Association. The word “GROUP” will apply to a Mini Band emanating from that entity. \n\nNaming of a GROUP\n\nA BAND may enter as many GROUPS as it wishes\, under the conditions set out below. Naming of the GROUPS shall be the “Name of the BAND” No 1\,2\,3 etc \n\nSize of GROUP\n\nA GROUP shall comprise:  min 4 and max 6 Pipers\, min 2 and max 3 Snares\, min 1 Bass\, 1 or 2 Tenors (optional) \nThe Pipe Major may play in such capacity in multiple GROUPS.\nThe Bass Drummer may play in such capacity in multiple GROUPS.\nNo other members of a GROUP shall play in another GROUP\, unless on a different instrument.  eg\, a Piper may play in a second GROUP as a tenor Drummer etc. \n\nAttire and Presentation\n\nAll members of a GROUP shall present in the BAND’s uniform registered with their Association. However\, due to heat conditions in Singapore\, the players wearing kilts may substitute a Collared T-Shirt for their sleeved shirt and waistcoat. Bands who are dressed in trousers\, such as BB\, must wear full uniform. Headwear and footwear shall be of convention. \nThe unit shall form as a horse shoe\, facing the audience. Adjudicators will be placed to the front (Piping/Ensemble) and to the rear side (Drumming). The directions of the Contest Supervisor must be adhered to. \n\nThe Juvenile Contest\n\nJuvenile GROUPS are required to play two elements\, for Championship recognition\, but may elect to play in one element only. \nThe registered tutor of a Juvenile BAND may play with one\, or all\, GROUPS as Pipe Major. All other members of the GROUP shall be not more than 18 years of age at 4 June 2023. \nElement 1:   8 parts of simple (duple or quadruple) time Marches.\nElement 2:   3-5 minute Medley. \n\nThe Open Contest (A and B)\n\nOpen GROUPS are required to play two elements\, for Championship recognition\, but may elect to play in one element only. \nThe regulation regarding players in each group is noted in rule 3. \nOpen B \nElement 1:   8 parts of simple duple time Marches.\nElement 2:   3-5 minute Medley. \nOpen A \nElement 1:   MSR minimum 4x4x4\nAll tunes must be 4 parted or more (not a combination of 2 parted tunes).\nElement 2:   4-6 minute Medley. \n\nEntry and Departure\n\nGroups will enter and depart without playing. \nSolo Contests \n14 years and under\nAny participant shall not be more than 14 years of age at 4 June 2023.\n4 Parts of simple (duple or quadruple) time Marches. \n16 years and under\nAny participant shall not be more than 16 years of age at 4 June 2023\n8 Parts of simple (duple or quadruple) time Marches. \n18 years and under\nAny participant shall not be more than 18 years of age at 4 June 2023.\nMSR minimum 4x2x2 \nOpen\nMSR minimum 4x2x2\nHornpipe and Jig minimum 4 parts each tune\nPiobaireachd    Ground and 1st Variation only \n\nPresentation of Trophies.\n\nThe Presentations will be held after the relevant contests at the end of each day. Recipients are required to be in uniform when receiving the trophy.

SUMMARY:Mackay’s Memoirs Workshop with NYPBS
DESCRIPTION:Sign up to the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland’s free music workshop\, being held on Sunday\, June 18 at The National Piping Centre. \nThis workshop brings together young music-makers in Glasgow to look at Mackay’s Memoirs by Martyn Bennett. Martyn wrote this piece originally for young people to play\, and it’s a masterclass in tasteful accessible music for a large ensemble. \nPlaces are free but limited so sign up here now to claim yours! \nThere’s no need to know the piece already. We’ll be working in creative ways: adding our own parts\, learning the rhythms and melodies and using our listening skills. We will have written music on the day but you can also take part learning by ear. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe event is welcoming all abilities\, and is open to all instruments and vocalists! For young people aged 12-18\, or up to 25 if you identify as having a disability. Places are free but limited so sign up now to claim yours! \nFor community organisations and schools taster sessions can be arranged via nypb@thepipingcentre.co.uk \nThe workshops will be lead by tutors from various genres and instrumental disciplines. \nThe project includes:\n\nFree access to specially created online learning resources\, including videos and new accessible parts to the score!\nThe chance to play along to guide tracks and submit your own recordings which will be woven together to form a unique film of the piece.\nLive workshop events where young people will be able to work on the piece with NYPBS players.\n\nLevel of Experience\nThe application for will ask you to state your level of musicianship using the guide below. \n\nComplete beginner: You haven’t played your instrument before or have just started.\nLevel 1: You can play a few scales and some simple melodies/ exercises or basic rudiments.\nLevel 2: You will have been playing for 6-12 months and have a basic understanding of technique plus a few tunes under your belt.\nLevel 3: You will have been playing for 1–2 years and know a good number of tunes of varying styles.\nLevel 4: You will have been playing for a minimum of 2 years and have a good grasp of your instrument.
