This will be confirmed nearer the time of your school. For our online schools\, you will join us on Zoom each day for your day of tuition! Once you have registered\, we will be in touch with more information about the school and how you can log in each day. \nWhat will I learn?\nOver the four days there will be group lessons\, 1-2-1 tuition\, Masterclass workshops and more for pipers. Each piping student will be provided with a digital music pack so everyone will have new music to learn. \nWhat will the school cost?\nIt is £275 GBP to register for a place on one of our  in person schools and £240 GBP for an online school. Registrations will open shortly. \nWhat will my timetable look like?\nWe are just finalising the exact timetable and will update this soon\, but you can expect 1-2-1 lessons\, practice time\, masterclasses\, workshops\, new music and more. These will be similar for in person and online tuition. \nWho will be teaching me?\n \nEach school will have a different teaching line up\, from our world-class professional pipers. \nThe teachers for the upcoming Summer Adult Gathering will be: \nAndrew Bova\, John Mulhearn\, Ailis Sutherland and Dan Nevans \nIs It for me?\nIf you are still unsure about if it is right for you\, we asked attendees at our recent school to tell us about their experiences and here is what they had to say: \n” Thoroughly recommend attending an adult gathering at least once in your lifetime\, I’ve done it twice and it resulted both times in a positive step change in my piping.\nWorld class instructors\, fantastic location\, and an easy and open way of teaching” – Attended in person in Winter 2023 \n“I found the whole Gathering experience absolutely brilliant\, being able to attend in person\, the staff and guest tutors were so down to earth and approachable\, all being World famous Superstar Pipers. Everyone of them brought fountains of knowledge\, new techniques for us to consider for our level of piping\, and all where so passionate about piping\, that most lessons ran over\, which is so infectious. I’ve attended one or two Gatherings before\, all of which were well worth doing\, but this has to be the best todate. I’ve come away with renewed enthusiasm for my piping. I’ve always said\, if the NPC says this is how to do it\, no one can argue with that. I’ve had an amazing time\, met some old friends and made new ones\, will be booking for Spring 23. ” – Attended in person in Spring 2022 \nBOOK ADULT GATHERING   CUSTOMER ACCOUNT \nHearing Protection\nThe National Piping Centre requires all students to use hearing protection at all times when playing pipes. Hearing protection is available for purchase in our shop or free of charge from the earplug dispenser in both our piping school venues.\nFind out more

SUMMARY:The CLASP ‘Live Online’ competition
DESCRIPTION:•Pierrick Monnier was the CLASP ‘Live Online’ Grade 3 overall winner in February 2022 \nThe Grade 1 overall winner will qualify for The Champion of Champions CLASP competition in April 2024\nThis CLASP competition will run on Saturday 11th November 2023 via the platform\, Zoom. The closing date for this competition is Sunday 22nd October 2023  at midnight (UK Time). Events will be offered to adult amateur pipers graded 1\, 2\, 3\, 4/5 and both Light Music and Piobaireachd events will be offered for all four grades. Please note that pipers graded 5 can play up in grade 4 events. \nCompetitors will play ‘Live’\, but will use a video recording to capture their live performance and should send this unedited video recording later that day to clasp@thepipingcentre.co.uk. When you enter the Zoom meeting\, there will be assigned breakout rooms for the different events. There will be a steward to help competitors navigate Zoom on the day. CLASP members can click into any of the named breakout rooms to listen to the competitions or if you are competing in that event. Each competitor will be given a time slot to compete in their Piobaireachd event and a separate time slot to compete in their Light Music event. (We will work around different time zones). \nThe order of play\, performance times and the selected tunes (for Grade 1 and Grade 2) will be published one week prior to the competition date on The CLASP website. Please email tune submissions by Sunday 22nd October 2023 to clasp@thepipingcentre.co.uk \nOnce you enter a breakout room (for example ‘Grade 2 – Piobaireachd’ breakout room) you will be asked\, at your designated performance time slot\, to start your video recording device and a steward will then introduce you and that will verify the recording. For example\, ‘This is Mary MacLeod playing The Little Spree for The CLASP ‘Live online’ November 2023 competition’ and away you go\, with a bit of tuning if you need to (but not too much). If using a mobile phone to video your recording\, please put it on flight mode. \nLater that day\, you should upload your video to you tube as an unlisted video. A video link for Piobaireachd and a separate video link for Light Music (Including all Light Music events) should be emailed by midnight on the 11th November 2023 to clasp@thepipingcentre.co.uk \nEvents:\nPiobaireachd – Grades 1\,2\,3&4/5 – Please note that Grade 4 pipers can opt to play a full Piobaireachd in Grade 3 if they wish (no points will be allocated for this) as well as Ground and next variation (which carry league points for grade 4).\n2/4 March Event – Grades 1\, 2\,3\,4/5\nStrathspey & Reel Event – Grades 1\,2\,3\,4/5\nJig Event- Grade 1\,2.3\, 4/5 \nPlease click on the link to see tune requirements for each grade/event- https://theclasp.co.uk/set-tunes/#requirements \n\nSome rules to read: \nCLASP Rules apply for all CLASP competitions https://theclasp.co.uk/rules-sanctioning/\nPlease wear Highland dress. Jacket optional\nCLASP members will be emailed the Zoom link prior to the competition date and this link should not be shared outside of the membership.\nIn case your video recording device does not catch the stewards intro\, you will be asked to repeat what the steward says for example\, Mary would say “yes\, I’m Mary MacLeod playing The Little Spree” … then start playing without a break. This speech will also help the judges.\nYou must not edit your recording afterwards. \nUpload your recording to YouTube (unlisted) and send the link to clasp@thepipingcente.co.uk by 23.59 hrs (Scottish time) that day. When uploading your video link to You Tube\, you get a chance to give the video a name. Adding your name again (and the tune names in the description box) will also help the judges.\nYou’ll get a Crit sheet from the judges\, so carry on playing even if you make an error – the Crit can be very helpful for your learning/development as a piper.\nPrize winners will be announced two/three weeks after the competition date. You can arrive early\, and stay as late as you like\, but be on the screen with pipes up\, in the correct room\, at your performance time. Please keep your microphone muted\, and video turned off when entering breakout rooms. When Spectating it is best to keep your microphone muted also.

John Wilson\, where he rose to the rank of Pipe Sergeant.  He retired from the band in 1967. \nGeorge was well known in Ontario as a dedicated teacher of the pipes and a composer of many tunes.  He was a loyal supporter of the Niagara-Hamilton Branch of the Pipers’ and Pipe Band Society of Ontario. \nGeorge will be remembered fondly by his many friends and pupils.  His keen wit will be unforgettable to those of us who  knew him.  He was never without a story or wee joke. \nGeorge Sherriff’s unfailing support of many generations of young players has helped contribute to the legacy of successful piping in Ontario.  This contest is named in his honour.

SUMMARY:Ratae Pipe Band Solo Piping Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Ratae Pipe Band was formed in 2022 and are based in Leicester. They are planning a fundraising concert of solo piping with Stuart Samson and Ben Duncan on Saturday\, November 18\, in Syston\, Leicester – see flyer below for details. \n\n\n\nThe band are led by Pipe Major Bryon Brotherton MBE who is ex-Pipe Major of Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. Pipe Sergeant Syd Charles told Bagpipe.news: “Bryon originates from Leicester and when he left the army he moved back into the area and was approached to put a competing band together.  Our leading drummer\, Ed Latimer is also ex-army. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n“The band was formed last year with the focus on competing and starting off in Grade 4B. We have different standards of players in the band\, some that have never competed\, some that are veterans at competing\, but also with a big focus on youth. We currently have five youngsters from the age of nine to 14 years old\, so we have a real good mix. \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n“As with any band we are always on the look out for new members of any age. Within our members there is a wealth of pipe band knowledge and musical experience that can be passed on correctly to help with the musical ability of the band.”
