The Irpinia School of Bagpipes are hosting a workshop weekend at the castle complex in the town of Summonte. The town is in the Campania region of southern Italy, with Naples being the capital city of that region of Italy. The workshops will be led by the Italian piper and instrument-maker Franco Calanca. Full details of the workshops are below.
The S.I.C. is an initiative conceived by a group of local musicians who are passionate about traditional music performed with bagpipes such as beer and bagpipes, with a particular interest in Scottish traditional music.
Franco Calanca, one of the most talented players and the most reliable instrument manufacturers, will make available to participants his thirty-year experience as a musician and lute player. As the main protagonist of the revival of Emilian beer, which took place in the first two thousand years, during the stage it will also give space to the enthusiasts of this characteristic instrument of the Tuscan-Emiliano Appenines.
During the weekend there will be educational moments, exhibition and music sharing, evening “open sessions” and the performance of a “massed band” on the streets of the village, at the end of the event. The workshops will take place with open doors for the most curious.
