The Scottish Pipers’ Association’s (SPA) annual solo piping competition for professional pipers takes place this Saturday, April 13. For the first time the contest will be split across The National Piping Centre’s two venues: the P and A grade events take place at Otago Street in Glasgow’s West End (near Kelvinbridge subway) with the B and C grade events taking place at McPhater Street.
The A Grade Former Winners’ contest requires players to submit four marches, strathspeys and reels and having to play two of each right through.
This is the first time in recent years that the SPA has had graded contests and it looks set to be as big a success as the entries suggest.
Some players who play in different grades will have to change venue but the draw should ensure plenty of time for the short subway journey.
The competition kicks off at 09.30.
