Wilson, an instructor at The National Piping Centre piped all the way around the route.

The former Gold Medallist and Strathclyde Police Pipe Band piper raised additional funds when he auctioned a 6/8 march he composed for the event.

The highest bidder was Sandy MacKenzie from Alness in Ross & Cromarty, Scotland.

Mr MacKenzie has named the tune, Stuart MacKenzie’s Welcome to Gairloch in memory of his son who died 16 years ago.

Wilson said: “I would like to thank Sandy and all those who donated and who are still donating to this very worthwhile and important charity. Donations have exceeded my target by over 300%”
