John Dew of Perthshire, Scotland goes through to the next round of the Scots Guards’ Knockout series. The Inveraray & District piper pipped Lewis Russell of Lanarkshire at the second quarter final this afternoon.

The contest took place, as usual, at the Scots Guards Club in Haymarket, Edinburgh in front of a good-sized audience of between 60-70. Both pipers were reported to have been in fine form.

First to play was Russell, a member of Glasgow Police Pipe Band, who put on an enjoyable half hour recital. Dew was the post-pie piper and gave an equally enjoyable recital.

Each player’s recital must include the ground of a pibroch and an MSR.

The next two quarter final heats in the current series are:

• January 26, 2020 – Angus McColl Jnr. and Calum Wynd
• February 23 – Calum Brown and Bradley Parker. The draw for the semi finals will be held after after the completion of this heat.

An audience vote decides the winner of each heat but the final will include formal judges.
