The National Piping Centre is implementng a redundancy consultation with its staff. A spokesman said today in a statement: “The National Piping Centre (the ‘NPC’) has experienced a prolonged and large reduction in both its teaching and commercial activities due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“The Board of the NPC has had to consider taking steps in order to protect the long-term viability of the organisation, in particular its ability to continue as a charity providing comprehensive bagpipe teaching programmes and supporting piping in general. As a result, the NPC has started a consultation period with its staff in both teaching and hospitality divisions, which may result in redundancies within the group.

“Although the McPhater Street premises have re-opened, the Otago Street venue has remained temporarily closed in order to minimise costs.”
