The RSPBA has made tentative dates for some band competitions and championships for 2021. Clearly, they are dependent on current restrictions in Scotland and Northern Ireland being severely reduced by next spring.
They are:
British Championships (Paisley) – May 22
Markinch Games – June 6
UK Championships (Lurgan, Northern Ireland) – June 12
Strathmore Games – June 13
Cupar Games – June 20
European Championships, (Inverness) – June 26
Thornton Games – July 3
Scottish Championships, (Dumbarton) – July 31
North Berwick Games – August 7
Bridge Of Allan Games – August 8
World Championships, Glasgow – August 13 and 14
Crieff Highland Gathering – August 22
Perth Games – August 29
Pitlochry Games – September 11
Although tentative, the dates will nevertheless be welcomed heartily by all in the pipe band world. Currently, in the UK, a vaccination programme is being planned for the next few months. It may even commence this month.
With the World Pipe Band Championships being pencilled in for August 13 and 14, this means that the dates for Piping Live would probably be August 8-15. A spokesman for the National Piping Centre said it would confirm the dates as soon as possible.
