The Northern Ireland branch of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA) says it is considering cancelling all its pipe band competitions until the end of July. Although covering most of the competition season, this would affect only four competitions including the All-Ireland Championships on July 3.

The RSPBANI committee is to make such a formal recommendation at its forthcoming meeting on March 27.

The move comes three weeks after the Pipe Bands’ Association of Southern Africa (PBASA) cancelled its competition season in its entirety thus giving its membership certainty at least.

A spokesman for the RSPBANI said it is “actively considering” organising a pipe band festival on two Saturdays in August 2021 and possibly one in September.

To date, the RSPBA has cancelled the first three of its major championships.
