Gordon McCready from Renfrew in Scotland won the overall Professional category at the Pipers & Pipe Band Society of Ontario (PPBSO) fifth and final online event of 2021.

This competition may – may – well prove to be the last big solo piping competition, in Canada and elsewhere, to be held online.

The Cobourg Scottish Festival takes place next month (September 11) but will be a live, in-person competition in Ontario since the start of the pandemic.

Colin MacLellan of Edinburgh, pictured, won the ceòl mòr competition with a 23-minute performance of Lament for the Harp Tree. The veteran piper and Senior Judge also notched a fourth in the Hornpipe & Jig.

Ian K. Macdonald of Whitby, Ontario, who was on a winning streak in the PPBDO’s previous online contests, won the MSR and placed second overall.

Fergus Highland Games marks its 75th anniversary this year.
