Western Isles piper, James Duncan MacKenzie, has published his first collection of pipe music.

The 2019 Northern Meeting Silver Medallist’s book contains 70 new pieces.

MacKenzie, from Lewis, started piping at the age of eight and was taught initially by Pipe Major Nick Gordon then the late Pipe Major Iain Murdo Morrison. He also plays with folk band, Breabach. Heis also a member of Tryst, the Scottish ten-piece bagpipe ensemble.

MacKenzie has produced and released two solo albums, with his third solo album due for release in 2022. His recent and forthcoming albums consist entirely of his own tunes, all of which can be found in his new book.
