St Laurence O’Toole win the Worlds 2010

PHOTO OF THE WEEK: It’s only appropriate that we post these photos in the same week of Pipe Major Terry Tully announcing his retirement from the St Laurence O’Toole Pipe Band.

I interviewed Terry for an article in Piping Today magazine in the Glennifer Hotel on the eve of the Worlds in 2009. It was right after the band finished their evening practice, and I was very grateful Terry could give me his time to speak about SLOT’s history, music, recordings and their chances of ever winning the Worlds.

So exactly a year later, I was delighted to be at the Worlds to see Terry celebrate with his band. However I was so disappointed with my photos that day – wrong settings, wrong equipment, wrong position – that only a few of them ever made the cut and escaped the confines of my hard disk. But time is a great healer, and Terry’s announcement this week made me go back to see what I could salvage from 12 years ago. Hopefully these sun-bleached photos below will bring a smile and a nice memory to the people who were there.
