It has been a wait of two long years for a major championship, but the pipe band world can once again come together, meet old friends, play the music, have a pint in the beer tent and congratulate the winners at the British Pipe Band Championships in Greenock today, May 21, 2022.

The first bands to get the contests going started at 10am and the full draw for all the grades can be found here.

This morning dawned bright and full of promise, but the forecast today is a cool real feel of 10º, maybe rising to 14º — which is more or less t-shirt weather for Scotland. It will be breezy with the chance scattered showers throughout the day, with rain predicted to start at 12 noon and continue past 2pm which might effect the majority of the Grade 1 competition. Field Marshal Montgomery are on at 1.35pm and Shotts & Dykehead Caledonia at 2.05pm and hopefully they will have more luck than in 2019 when they both caught the worst of the rain at the Scottish in Dumbarton.

If you have any photos of your band and comments from today you would like to share on bagpipe.news, email them to news@bagpipe.news or reach us through our Facebook group, our Face book page, our twitter page or our instagram page.
