In two day’s time Piping Live! begins. If you are there for the full week, take a deep breath and strap yourself in for the ride. Monday’s schedule has everything including the kitchen sink: world class solo piping; seven hours of free music in the Piping Live! Street Cafe; an RSPBA drumming championship; NPC museum tours; come and try piping sessions; a participatory BIG pipe band march to George Square; a gig in Kelvingrove Art Gallery; pipe bands in Buchanan Street; and the choice of three evening events from the Masters Solo Competition, The National Youth Pipe Band in concert, or avant-garde piping from Blarvuster and Malin Makes Music.

Piping Live! hosts an avant-garde piping night for the first time. This groundbreaking concert will showcase the Ceol Nua – or new music – style that has been developed by Dr Matt Welch.
Also on the bill is Malin makes Music, the stage name of composer, musical director, bagpipe and fiddle player Malin Lewis. Young traditional musician of the year finalist 2022, their music is inspired by everything they are exposed to in life.

The National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland – Emerging Composers: 20 Years Young
As part of Piping Live! 2022, 10 new pieces that have been created for the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland (NYPBS) will be premiered.
These new pieces will be presented by a bespoke project band featuring the 10 young composers themselves, as well as NYPBS Pipers and Drummers alongside leading traditional musicians.
