Finlay MacDonald is the Director of Piping at The National Piping Centre and comes from a family with strong piping connections. He grew up within a pipe band culture that involved his parents and many relations, and that led to playing smallpipes, playing in sessions and writing music at a young age. By the time he got to his final year in school he wanted to pursue music as a career and the RSAMD’s BA Scottish Music course was on the horizon. He took that degree course and has never looked back.

Also in this episode, Dr Andrew Bova presents a historical artefact with strong links to Angus MacKay, and the show finishes with footage of the Tryst ensemble of 10 pipers playing their Gordon Duncan set at Piping Live! 2019.
