Douglas Gardiner, President of the the Eagle Pipers’ Society made an announcement yesterday about the Captain John A. MacLellan MBE Memorial Dinner & Recital for 2023. Douglas said: “I am pleased to confirm The Eagle Pipers’ Society will once again be running The Captain John A. MacLellan MBE Memorial Dinner & Recital Competition on Saturday, August 26, 2023.
“The venue will be the Caledonian Hotel, Edinburgh. Dress code is black tie. We are in the process of confirming the four pipers and tickets will be priced £60 and go on sale in Spring.
“The evening is currently Edinburgh’s only premier solo piping event and honours of one of our founding members. It also provides a rare platform for the playing of 20th century piobaireachd. The success of the dinner since its inception in helping to bring Captain John’s tunes into the popular competitive repertoire is illustrated by his tunes winning first prize at the Glenfiddich in 2019, first and second prizes in the Bratach Gorm in 2021 and first prize in the Gold Medal at The Argyllshire Gathering in 2022.
