Weekend Piping Club at the NPC for under 17s resumes on Saturday

The Weekend Piping Club is a fantastic learning place for new players and those that already play. Aimed at young learners, aged 6-17, classes are taught in small groups at The National Piping Centre in McPhater Street.

The Weekend Piping Club takes place on Saturdays, and there are six levels (details below) to accommodate a range of learning stages. Club terms run for 12 weeks with the Glasgow schools term dates (e.g. classes will not run over the September Weekend or the October Week).

The dates for the Autumn 2023 term are: Saturday 2nd September – Saturday 16th December

You can sign up now for the following levels:

Complete Beginners: Aged 17&U*
Time: 10am – 10.30am (30 min class)
Cost £60 for 12 weeks on either Saturday or Sunday
Course content: introductory exercises and demonstrations, taught by ear using TNPC Tutorbook.

*Please note: practice chanters and books can be purchased from the Bagpipe Shop in-person or online

Beginners 1: Aged 6-8**
Time: 10.30am – 11am (30 min class)
Cost £60 for 12 weeks on either Saturday or Sunday
Course content: Those that can play scale and one or two grace notes, including those who have taken our complete beginners course.
**Please note: You do not need to have done our complete beginners course in order to join at this level.  

Beginners 2: Aged 8-12***
Time: 10.45am – 11.30am (45 min class)
Cost £80 for 12 weeks on either Saturday or Sunday
Course content: Those that can play scale and one or two grace notes, including those who have taken our complete beginners course.
***Please note: You do not need to have done our complete beginners course in order to join at this level.

Novice Chanter: Aged 8-12
Time: 10am – 10.45am (45 min class)
Cost £80 for 12 weeks on either Saturday or Sunday
Course content: simple tunes, complex exercises and demonstrations, taught using Weekend Piping Club music pack and other appropriate material.

Intermediate Chanter: Aged 11-17
Time: 11.30am – 12.30pm (1 hour class)
Cost £80 for 12 weeks on either Saturday or Sunday
Course content: more complex tunes, advanced exercises and demonstrations, taught using Weekend Piping Club music pack and other appropriate material.

Pipers: Aged 17&U
Time: 11am – 12.30pm (1.5 hour class)
Cost: £120 for 12 weeks on either Saturday or Sunday
Course content: This course will focus on Technique, Repertoire & Performance Practice
