Mackenzie Caledonian Pipe Band is thrilled to announce an evening of Scottish bagpipe music featuring the renowned piper, Willie McCallum, on April 26, 2024. The recital will take place at the exquisite Woodlands Hotel, located just a short distance from Broughty Ferry, the ancestral home of the Mackenzie Caledonian Pipe Band.
Hailing from Campbeltown in Kintyre on the West Coast of Scotland, Willie McCallum is a nine-time winner of the Glenfiddich Piping Championships. His remarkable talent and dedication to the Highland bagpipes was fostered at an early age under the guidance of his uncles, Ronald and Hugh McCallum, and his second cousin, Pipe Major Ronald McCallum MBE. With a piping lineage dating back to John McAlister, winner of the prize pipe at the Falkirk Tryst in 1782, McCallum’s legacy in piping is deeply rooted in tradition and excellence.
Joining McCallum on stage will be two local pipers, Lachlan Rennie, and Angus Robson, both esteemed members of the Mackenzie Caledonian Pipe Band. Trained through the band’s renowned youth tuition system, Rennie and Robson have garnered acclaim for their solo performances, including appearances at the Northern Meeting in Inverness.
Established in 1918, Mackenzie Caledonian Pipe Band has been a stalwart presence in the piping and pipe band community, dedicated to supporting and promoting Scottish piping traditions in Dundee and the surrounding area. Following the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the band is committed to revitalising and expanding its youth development initiatives in the region.
Do not miss this unforgettable evening of Scottish music and piping excellence. Doors open at 7:00pm on April 26 at the Woodlands Hotel.
