Those who have read my book know that I was once of the opinion that hide bags produce a fuller sound than synthetic ones. I have changed my mind and now find no significant difference between the two.
Synthetic bags without a good moisture control system still sound inferior to hide bags. A properly seasoned sheepskin bag offers a natural moisture control as seasoning is hydroscopic. Synthetic bags have little to zero natural moisture control. Modern moisture control systems now make it easy to match the amount of moisture getting to reeds as in skin bags. I’ve managed to produce the same quality of sound with both, especially on that elusive high A.
