Abernethy Highland Games Results took place on Saturday, August 10. This year we were delighted to welcome back Duncan Watson as our adjudicator in the Senior competition, and Lewis Barclay in the Juniors, with Andrew Maclennan judging the pipe band competition.

The strong overnight wind settled in time for the start of the Games, and it remained dry throughout, with temperatures more pleasant than last year’s heat.

There was a total of 11 entrants to the Senior competition, with strong representation from Pikes Peak Highlanders, USA, and MacMillan Pipe Band, USA as well as pipers from the Scottish Highlands. The high standard of piping was maintained this year, with the top four pipers very closely grouped in quality.

There were eight youngsters from the age of 10 years competing, but we had no local pipers this time round.

We had eight pipe bands attending the Games, including Pikes Peak Highlanders from Colorado, USA, making their first visit to a Scottish Highland Games. Six  bands entered in the competition for the Pipe Band Challenge Shield: City of Inverness (Youth), Portsoy and District, Forres and District, Pikes Peak Highlanders, Strathisla, and Aberlour Community and District.

The winner of the Pipe Band Challenge Shield was Pikes Peak Highlanders Pipe Band from Colorado Springs, USA.
