Pipe Major Richard Parkes MBE has announced his retirement from Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band.
He became the most successful pipe major when he led the band from Northern Ireland to their 13th World Championship in 2022, eclipsing the 12 world titles won by Ian McLellan BEM with Strathclyde Police Pipe Band. Richard spent more than 40 years as pipe major with FM, first winning the Grade 1 Worlds in 1992.
Pipe Sergeant Matt Wilson will take on the mantle of pipe major with Gareth McLees continuing as leading drummer.
