I caught up with Donald WG Lindsay in the West End of Glasgow yesterday, September 17th, as he has a two day break on the September leg of his UK tour with Alasdair Roberts. The duo have already completed 9 dates of the tour taking them from Orkney to London, then up to Nottingham, with the next gig being today, September 18th at the Summerhall in Edinburgh.
Donald gave me a short tune on his smallpipes with the Lindsay System fully tunable chanter, playing and singing, Wantonness For Evermair, by Robert Burns.
The smallpipes are 3D printed from a material called PA2200 which is tonally equivalent to boxwood. The Lindsay system chanter covers two and a half octaves and the one used in the recording was in the key of Bb/Eb.
