Lochaber Piping Society’s Annual Youth Piping & Drumming Competition for players 18 years of age and under, will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Lochaber Gaelic Primary School, Ardgour Road, Caol, Fort William, PH33 7JE commencing at 9.30am prompt.

Entry forms can be downloaded here, and should be completed, signed and returned (post or email) by Friday, April 11, together with the fee of £4.00 per event, to the Secretary:

Tuning areas will be available. Light lunches and snacks will also be available.

HEARING PROTECTION: Players and audience are strongly recommended to wear hearing protection during all piping and drumming events and in the associated tuning/practice rooms.

Lochaber Piping Society Annual Junior Competition Rules

  1. This is a competition open only to Junior players, aged 18yrs and under, who have not been placed in any Adult competition.
  2. Events 1 & 2 are for players who have not yet attained bagpipe standard.
  3. Competitors in Events 1 & 2 are not eligible for other events apart from Drumming.
  4. Competitors in Event 3 (Novice Piping) are not eligible for other events apart from Drumming.
  5. Event 3 (Novice Piping) – Previous 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners cannot compete in this event.
  6. Competitors in Events 6, 9 or 12 cannot compete in Event 11 (and vice-versa).
  7. Competitors who have played a full piobaireachd in any competition cannot compete in Event 11.
  8. Competitors may only enter events in their own age group.
  9. Competitors in Events 14 or 15 cannot compete in event 13 (and vice-versa).
  10. Competitors must be prepared to present themselves in the order of play as specified in the programme, or as directed by the Stewards. Failure to do so may mean disqualification.

Additional Awards

1.   The Miss MacRae Conchra Cup will be awarded to the youngest competitor.
2.   The Hugh MacPhee Memorial Quaich will be presented to the Lochaber boy or girl with the highest points in Events 1 and 2
3.   The Buchanan Shield will be presented to the Lochaber player with the highest points in Events 3(a) and 3(b).
4.   The West Highland Junior Piping Trophy will be awarded to the best Lochaber player of a March in Event 5.
5.   The Fort William Town Council Cup will be awarded to the Lochaber girl piper with the highest points aggregate in all events except Events 1, 2 and 3. In the event of a tie, the cup will be shared and initially presented to the younger competitor.
6.   The John MacLellan Trophy will be awarded to the Lochaber boy piper with the highest points aggregate in all events except Events 1, 2 and 3. In the event of a tie, the cup will be shared and initially presented to the younger competitor.
7.   The Evan MacRae Trophy will be awarded to the Lochaber competitor with the highest points in Event 9 – Piobaireachd, 15 to 18 years.
8.   The Roddie MacDonald Memorial Quaich will be awarded to the Lochaber competitor with the highest points in either Event 7 or Event 9.   All prize winners will receive an award for retention.
