R T Shepherd and Son quickly set a standard with the manufacture of high-quality pipe chanters and reeds, the combination of which helped bands in every grade win many prizes and World Championships. The company became an innovator for new piping products and top quality Highland pipes and smallpipes.
The insolvency of the firm is attributed to various factors, primarily revolving around cash flow challenges. Despite efforts to secure further funding, the company found itself unable to meet its financial obligations.
The interim liquidator Steven Wright, Partner and Head of Business Recovery, at Dains expressed his commitment to navigating the complexities of the insolvency process, stating: “Despite it’s strong reputation and branding in the bagpipe world, the company
faced several challenges over the past few years which unfortunately led to the director’s taking the tough decision to file for a winding up petition. Our initial priority was to assist all employees with their claims and deal with a large number of stakeholders from across the world.
“I am pleased to say that we have now managed to secure a sale of the company assets to a former employee, Ross Watson t/a Broadleys Bagpipes & Reeds. Ross has a unique understanding of the business and is well placed to be able to take on the R T Shepherd brand. Anyone wishing to purchase anything previously associated with the company should now contact Ross directly”.
Dains, a trading name of William Duncan (Business Recovery) Ltd and a part of the Dains Group of Companies, remains dedicated to supporting businesses in financial distress and providing comprehensive solutions to complex insolvency challenges.
