Bruce began piping journey at age four, inspired at the Bathgate Highland Games. He learned from the late Pipe Major John Nicol, played with the Vale of Atholl Pipe Band, and was mentored by smallpipes revivalist Hamish Moore. Combining his rich piping background with a career in software engineering, Bruce created Braw Tunes to solve everyday frustrations pipers face – like tracking down the right version of a tune or remembering how one starts.
Bruce explained: “Braw Tunes was born out of my own practice sessions with a friend. We’d spend more time trying to find the right tunes and versions than actually playing. I wanted something that just worked – that let us get straight to the music.”
