Head to the Moffat Distillery on Saturday, November 14, for an intimate evening recital with Pipe Major Stuart Liddell MBE of Inveraray and District Pipe Band at Scotland’s first wood-fired distillery. Enjoy world-class piping, local drinks, handcrafted cocktails and a cosy atmosphere, all while raising funds for the Southwest Scotland Piping & Drumming Academy.
Based in Dumfries and Galloway, the South West of Scotland Piping and Drumming Academy is quietly getting more young people onto the pipes and drums. It offers free lessons in schools, monthly workshops and a residential summer school, and it currently works with well over 140 pupils across primary and secondary schools.
Led by chairman Andy McCartney, with tutors such as Billy Geddes, Callum Moffat and David Sheridan, the Academy also helps run the Dumfries & Galloway Schools Pipe Band, organises its own junior solo competitions and puts pupils through PDQB exams. It is kept going by grants, trusts and local donations, and it builds on a long tradition of teaching in the area while looking to reach further across the region.
