Press Photographer, Arthur ‘Weegee’ Fellig, who made his name in NYC in the 30s and 40s often said the secret to taking good documentary photos was: “Simple. f/8 and be there.” Photographers will understand what he meant.

On the day I got the photo above, Arthur’s mantra is exactly how I managed to nail the action. However, it is getting much harder to get these action shots at major championships, particularly at the Worlds when there are two film crews – just to keep everyone guessing – and near-darkness to contend with. It’s a pity, as images like the above could be iconic for piping… and Scotland.
