The Argyllshire Gathering launches its new website tomorrow. Pipers intending to compete at this year’s competitions will be able to register on the new site.

Torquil Telfer, Piping Steward, said: “As part of putting the new site live, we’ll aim to put in place redirects from relevant piping competition pages on the existing Oban Games so that web visitors automatically end up on the new site.”

The url is http://www.pipingcompetition.com

Competing pipers have until January 31 to submit their entries for both the Argyllshire Gathering and the Northern Meeting.

Glenn Brown

A reminder that Glenn Brown is the recitalist at the second evening of piping put on this winter by the Lewis and Harris Piping Society. Glenn will be playing in the Caladh Hotel in Stornoway this Saturday.

As with the Society’s first winter recitalist, Callum Beaumont, Glenn will also be taking workshops during the day.

Ken Mustard of the Kwazulu Natal Piping and Drumming Society sent us this:

“The Dunsmore Challenge will take place this year on Saturday, March 14 at the DLI hall in Durban, starting at 12.30.  Please note the venue and earlier starting time.

“The reason for the earlier starting time and venue is that Durban Caledonian Society Pipe Band will be holding a concert at the DLI Hall after the contest in the early evening.”

The Dunsmore Challenge is a team contest with each team comprising three pipers playing across three events: a set tune, a 9/8 or 12/8 march and a jig.

An MSR competition will take place after this.
