As expected, the 2021 United Kingdom Pipe Band Championships has been cancelled.
The RSPBA has released the following statement: “In response to the current Coronavirus outbreak (CoVid-19), we have made the decision to cancel the 2021 United Kingdom Pipe Band Championships in Lurgan originally scheduled for Saturday 12 June.
Our decision is based on the latest guidance from the Scottish and Northern Ireland Governments, as well as advice taken from our key partners.”
This championship will not be rescheduled in 2021.
At the time of posting, the British Championships (on May 22), and the European Championships (on June 26) are still planned to go ahead although the overwhelming view of pipe band members seems to be that these will also be cancelled – as, indeed, will the entire 2021 band season.
