Eight of the world’s best pipers will be competing at The Springbank Invitational Competition, held at the Argyll Arms Hotel, Campbeltown, Argyllshire, on Saturday, September 16 commencing 10am.
The competition was initiated in 2000 by the Kintyre Piping Society and has been sponsored by the local Springbank Distillery since its inception.
This year’s invitees are Callum Beaumont, Alasdair Henderson, Finlay Johnston, Fred Morrison, Stuart Liddell, Angus MacColl, Willie McCallum and Iain Speirs. Judges this year are Robert Barnes, Willie Morrison and John Wilson.
Travellers to Campbeltown for the competition are always given a special welcome by the Society which has been in existence for 70 years. It is hoped that the journey to hear some of the world’s best pipers in the town will inspire young players to take their piping to the highest level.
Last year’s winner was Angus MacColl of Benderloch.
