The Eagle Pipers’ Society will once again be running The Captain John A MacLellan MBE Memorial Dinner & Recital Competition in 2025. The date is Saturday, August 30, at The Caledonian Hotel, Edinburgh. Dress code is Black Tie.
The four performers for 2025 have still to be confirmed. The event has the continued, generous support of The William Grant Foundation.
Last year’s event was won by Ian K. MacDonald performing For my Lass, Fair, Pretty and Highland. The other pipers were Stuart Liddell MBE, Iain Speirs and Callum Beaumont.
The evening is currently Edinburgh’s only premier solo piping event, and it also provides a rare platform for the playing of 20th century piobaireachd. One of the key successes of the dinner is bringing Captain John’s tunes into the popular competitive repertoire.
