A rare opportunity for young pipers and drummers interested in a career in teaching and youth music.
Teaching jobs in piping and drumming are highly competitive at the moment and there aren’t many opportunities for young people to build their track records working with bands. And there aren’t many paid work experience opportunities for young pipers and drummers to develop their skills, confidence and experience.
The NYPBS are recruiting four new NYPBS Trainee Tutors to work on their Ensembles programme through their unique nine-month training programme.
‘NYPBS Trainee Tutors’ programme provides structured training and paid work experience for young people aged 18-25, or up to 30 if you’re disabled. a chance to build their track record and build their networks.
Applications are open Wednesday 14th May till 15th June. Find out more and see the full job pack at https://www.nypbs.co.uk/traineetutors

Steven Blake, Director of NYPBS said: “This is a very exciting year for the NYPBS. We have been developing the programme extensively over the past four years and this is set to be the most ambitious and fulfilling year yet.
“Over the past four years, we established two Trainee programmes working with emerging composers and tutors and have provided unique, real-world training to 43 trainees so far. These 43 capable young people are now working in the sector with more confidence and demonstrable teaching experience and are still part of our network here at the National Piping Centre.“

The programme is suitable for recent music graduates, current students and those with a strong foundation in piping and drumming who didn’t study music formally.
A previous trainee said: “The trainee tutor programme has taught me so much about being a music tutor, but also about what goes into projects like these being successful. The actual hands-on experience I’ve gotten under the guidance and support from Steven and David, has been invaluable and hugely educational in ways that I could never have expected.”

During the first phase Trainees receive training from world-class mentors from a range of backgrounds including Pipe Band across four training weekends. Then in the second phase they work alongside excellent staff, visiting mentors and guest musicians as part of NYPBS tuition team.

Following annual auditions NYPBS creates three ensembles comprising Scotland’s top young pipers and drummers from across the country. They meet regularly from October-April to create a new programme of concert music which they showcase at their End of Year Concert, which will be at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall.
