On Saturday, September 27, 2025 the Ottawa Branch of the Pipers’ and Pipe Band Society of Ontario (PPBSO) hosted the annual Glengarry Cup, a premier solo piping competition that draws top-tier talent from across the region and beyond.
Held in the Junior Ranks Mess, just steps from Parliament Hill, the event coincided once again with the National Police and Peacekeepers Memorial Weekend, a significant occasion that brings pipe bands and ceremonial units from across Canada to the capital.
The day began with the Piobaireachd contest in the afternoon, followed by the March, Strathspey, and Reel (MSR) contest in the evening. John Cairns, Bruce Gandy, and Brian Williamson presided over both events.
Ottawa Branch President Anne Seigmiller reflected on the event’s success, saying: “This year’s Glengarry Cup was once again a true celebration of excellence in piping. The level of artistry and technical precision displayed by the competitors was inspiring. It’s a privilege for the Ottawa Branch to host such a distinguished event, and we’re proud to provide a platform where players of this caliber can shine.”
The Ottawa Branch extends its sincere thanks to its generous supporters, RJW Stonemasons Ltd., The Piobaireachd Society and the Niagara-Hamilton PPBSO Branch, whose contributions make this event possible year after year.
The Branch also extends its thanks to the organising committee, Ron Graham, Karine Mayers, Jaymee McCarthy and Anne Seigmiller, as well as the members of the PPBSO Ottawa Branch Executive and volunteers who supported the event.
The Glengarry Cup has a rich history dating back to the 1980s, when it was first donated by the Glengarry Pipe Band. Over the decades, it has become a coveted prize in the solo piping community. Past winners include some of the most respected names in the piping world: Andrea Boyd, Ed Bush, Rob Crabtree, Bruce Gandy, Michael Grey, Andrew Hayes, Matt MacIsaac, Colin MacLellan, Ian K. MacDonald, and many others.
As the Ottawa Branch continues to foster musical excellence and community engagement, the Glengarry Cup remains a cornerstone of its annual calendar—honoring tradition while showcasing the future of piping.
