NPC Community Piping Club Tutors wanted for Aberdeen

The National Piping Centre are looking to employ three piping tutors for their new Community Piping Club in Aberdeen! The successful candidates will part of the NPC Youth Engagement Team, delivering fun, inclusive, small-group sessions for young people aged 7–17.

The Community Piping Club in Aberdeen will begin in April. If you love music, working with young people and making learning fun, this is your chance to:

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Knowledge, skills and experience

Required

  • An appropriate level of musical experience and proficiency in piping with particular
    skills in tuition and delivery.
  • Competent understanding of reading and writing notation.
  • An ability to communicate promptly, effectively and appropriately with the team,
    participants and parents/guardians.
  • An ability to meet participants where they are, with patience and kindness.
  • An enthusiasm for and commitment to youth music engagement and community
    development.
  • A positive, can-do attitude, being open to taking initiative and demonstrating
    flexibility.
  • Knowledge and experience of setting up pipes (e.g. chanter/drone reed selection and
    manipulation; troubleshooting maintenance issues; making recommendations for
    instruments and their set-up to parents/guardians of developing and growing
    participants).
  • A respectful and collaborative team player with a willingness to develop their own
    music and teaching skills.

Desirable

  • Experience delivering and/or facilitating community music sessions (incl. warm-up
    games).
  • An ability to adapt to the nuances between different age-groups and stage-groups.
  • A knowledge of broader traditional music and modern teaching techniques is
    preferred however a secure piping grounding is sufficient.
  • An ability to utilise musical notation and publishing software (e.g. Sibelius, Canva) to
    create engaging resources.
