The legendary 78th Fraser Highlanders Pipe Band have launched a new crowd-funding campaign to support a professional recording of the band’s August 12, 2026 pre-World’s concert, True North Strong.

The concert, presented ahead of the band’s annual trip to compete at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, will celebrate piping and drumming – this year with a distinctly Canadian flavour – while showcasing one of the pipe band world’s most enduring and innovative ensembles.

As a completely self-supporting organization, the band’s members personally shoulder the significant costs associated with international competition each season. The new campaign is intended to help offset the financial pressures involved in producing a world-class recording while preserving a unique musical moment for supporters and pipe band fans everywhere.

The 78th Fraser Highlanders have a long tradition of influential recordings, including the iconic 1987 release Live in Ireland, widely regarded as one of the most important live pipe band albums ever produced.

Pipe Major Michael Grey said the project is about both preserving music and supporting the people behind it: “Our concerts have always been an opportunity to share music that means something deeply to the band and to our audiences,” Michael said. “This campaign will help us create a professional recording that captures that spirit while easing some of the financial burden carried by our members as we represent Canada on the world stage.”
