Colin Johnstone, pictured, was the overall winner at last night’s George Sherriff invitational solo piping competition. The Aurora, Ontario piper’s first in the 6/8 March, second in the MSR and third in the Ceòl Mòr was enough to give him the overall title. Alistair Bevan, son of Simon Fraser University Pipe Band Pipe Major, Alan Bevan, placed second overall.

The competition is for amateur pipers and is organised by the Pipers’ and Pipe Band Society of Ontario. Ten pipers are invited each year. This was the competition’s 24th year and it took place in front of a good sized audience.

The venue was, as ever, St Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Hamilton, Ontario.
