We found this photograph whilst delving into the fascinating archives of the Piping Times yesterday. We post it today whilst the contribution made by pipers last Friday to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day is still fresh in the mind.

The photograph was sent in a few years ago by reader, Donald MacDonald of Inverness and shows the Pipes & Drums and Military bands of the 1st Bn. Highland Light Infantry, leading the victory parade through Admiralty Arch, London, in June 1946. Donald’s father, Donald James MacDonald was Pipe Major during the war years.

What an amazing photograph, Donald and thank you for sending it in to us.

Craig Muirhead has just published his latest collection of light music. 30 Exactly comprises 30 original compositions by Craig – 27 pipe tunes and three suited to other instruments.

Craig Muirhead and the cover of his new book

Craig tells Bagpipe.News: “The title comes from the fact that, obviously, there are 30 tunes in the book, but at the time of putting it all together, I was celebrating my 30th birthday. The book contains tunes that have already been played by some of the world’s top pipe bands and solo pipers. I hope everyone can find something they like.”

The collection is priced £15.00 and available now directly from Craig’s Facebook page.
