McCallum Bagpipes is to suply a set of bagpipes as part of efforts to mark the Queen’s platinum jubilee in 2022 around the UK and the Commonwealth.

As we reported exactly two months ago, pipers are asked to help mark the milestone by playing a tune composed for the occasion by Stuart Liddell of Inveraray, Scotland as the sun sets on June 2, 2022.

Now, the Kilmarnock, Scotland-based bagpipe manufacturing company says it will support the tribute by donating a set of its SL4 model to the piper who plays Liddell’s tune from the most unusual location. The SL4 model has been measured from Liddell’s own vintage MacRae bagpipe and was launched at Piping Live! in 2015. The instrument will be deivered to the piper next spring. Stuart is pictured here with his MacRae pipe in Derek Maxwell’s photograph from a recent Glenfiddich championship.

A spokesman for McCallum Bagpipes said: “We are pleased to supply a unique set of McCallum’s MacRae SL4 bagpipes by Stuart Liddell with bag and maintenance kit, fully inscribed, for the piper that undertakes the playing of this tune [Diu Regnare] from the most unusual location, at 9.09pm local time in the country they are in on 2nd June next year, as part of this unique celebration.”

The Queen ascended to the throne on June 2, 1953.
