Finlay Johnston was awarded the 2022 Silver Chanter last night, August 3, 2022. This was the 56th year of the competition as it returned home to the Isle of Skye after a four year sojourn at The National Piping Centre in Glasgow. The venue was Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the Gaelic College on Skye.

The other pipers taking part were Glenn Brown (Rory MacLeod’s Lament), Jamie Forrester (The Battle of Waternish), William McCallum (The Lament for the Harp Tree), Angus MacColl (I got a Kiss of the King’s Hand) and Callum Beaumont (Lament of MacLeod of Colbecks). The judge was Stuart Samson MBE.

The competition is still part of the Piping Live! programme and was available to watch online to those who have purchased a livestream pass for this year’s festival – available here – and can be watched again until August 21, 2022.
