The Board of The National Piping Centre (NPC) wishes to appoint a Commercial Director on a full time basis to succeed the current Commercial Director, who wishes to retire.

The NPC is a charity established to promote and encourage the study of the music and history of the Highland Bagpipe. The NPC has two premises in Glasgow from where it also undertakes significant commercial activities to fund its principal objectives.  The position will be based at our McPhater Street premises.

The successful candidate will work in partnership with the Director of Piping in all aspects of the NPC’s activities. They will have specific responsibility for all the commercial operations of the NPC which include a small boutique hotel, a restaurant & bar, catered functions, conferences and concerts. The Commercial Director will also manage the properties and retail, finance, HR and marketing functions of the NPC as well as having joint responsibility (together with the Director of Piping) for the annual Glasgow International Piping Festival (Piping Live!). The Commercial Director will also have a major role in the NPC’s strategy and fundraising, subject to the NPC Board and in partnership with the Director of Piping.

The Commercial Director will report to the NPC Board but will not serve as a statutory director.

It is expected that the successful candidate will display the following attributes

  • Significant business experience in a managerial role
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong and inspiring leadership
  • Good IT knowledge and social media awareness

The salary will be commensurate with the position and the experience of the successful candidate.
