Pipe Major John ‘Jock’ McLellan DCM’s 150th anniversary is being celebrated in 2025 and his hometown of Dunoon in Argyll is currently formulating plans for a major event. Jock’s music is so widely known in the piping community that pipers around the world may want to celebrate the man and his great body of work which stands at approximately 170 tunes.Â
As part of the 2025 anniversary preparations, Duncan MacGregor, the creator of the tribute website — https://johnmclellandcm.weebly.com/ — has been busy working on a new tribute TikTok page in that features short videos which highlight his many great tunes. The TikTok tribute page contains short videos featuring a number of popular pipe bands and solo pipers performing his melodic compositions – samples below.
Duncan told Bagpipe.news: “I started Jock’s Tribute TikTok page in July last year and it’s been a busy though very enjoyable experience. In early December we passed the 100,000 video views and over the festive season added almost 30,000 more – which is really great. My main target group has been Pipebandsmen and women, folk musicians and pipe music fans. The page has attracted many followers from the UK, Europe, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Indonesia and everywhere in between.
“My cousin Jim Henderson helped to compile the recent Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders Pipe Tune books, and we will soon be working together on a special Pipe Major John McLellan DCM 150th Anniversary tune book.”
