The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association announced last night, January 31, that progress has been made to add the European Championships to the pipe band calendar for 2024.
The date set for the Europeans is Sunday, August 11, in Perth, which is traditionally the date of the Perth Highland Games.
It looks like more good news might follow regarding the other Championships, with plans progressing to hold the UK Championships at Bangor, and talks still ongoing to rescue the British Championships.
The full statement from RSPBA Chairman, Kevin Reilly, is below.
Over the last 12 months we have reached out to over 100 contacts that included Councils, private entities and individuals with regards to them hosting a Major Championship in 2024 and beyond.
We are indebted to West Dunbartonshire Council and GlasgowLife for promoting the Scottish Championship and the World Pipe Band Championship.
I am pleased to announce that we have secured the European Championship to be held in Perth on the South Inch on Sunday 11th August 2024. We are also in the final stages of negotiations regarding the UK Championship and expect to conclude these negotiations by the end of this week.
We are of course conscious that our member bands need to make travel arrangements so we will inform you without delay of the outcome. We are also still in talks regarding the British Championship and will announce the outcome on Monday 12th February.
I would like to thank all my Directors for their efforts in helping to secure these Major Championships.
As soon as I have any more news I will let you know.
