The Duncan Johnstone Competition will once again be held at the National Piping Centre in Glasgow tomorrow, Saturday, March 23. Such is the popularity of this competition that both National Piping Centre venues, Otago Street and McPhater Street, will host various events for B and C Grade members of the Competing Pipers’ Association.
This year is likely to be the biggest in the competition’s history, with over 200 individual performances scheduled to take place. In addition to the usual piobaireachd and MSR events, the Duncan Johnstone Competition hosts a jig contest for each grade. Although own choice, players are required to play at least one jig composition written or arranged by Duncan Johnstone.
The Duncan Johnstone Competition is jointly organised by the Competing Pipers’ Association and the National Piping Centre with support from the William Grant Foundation. The overall winner in 2023 was Callum Wynd from Dunblane, Scotland.
