The Càirdeas organisation are hosting their sixth winter online tune session from 2-4pm EST (7-9pm in UK), February 21 on Zoom. The session will welcome back past instructors Michael Roddy and Gary West, and introduce Yann Cariou, to lead the tunes both new and familiar.
The sheet music and some recordings will be made available in the Winter Càirdeas Google Drive folders. When registered, you will receive access to those folders at least two weeks before we meet.
Attendees can look forward to playing along as the instructors lead the playing of tunes (both old favourites and rarer gems), along with some insights on the music. It’s also a chance to catch up with fellow music-lovers and meet some new friends.
Please register by noon on February 20 to receive the Zoom link. To register, send an email to cairdeasvt@gmail.com with Register Me in the subject line and we will send you details. Registration will put you on the list for the dots and mp3s of the tunes. We ask that you keep these files private.
To support our instructors for their time and efforts on your behalf, we are suggesting a $25-30 donation. Please click the link here to send your donation via PayPal.
Founded in 1988 by Hamish Moore and Matt Buckley, Càirdeas [pronounced “karsh-jess”] is a thriving community of enthusiasts who share a love of traditional Scottish music—most especially that of the bellows-blown Scottish smallpipes.
For close to 40 years, this fellowship has been gathering annually among the hobbity foothills of Vermont’s Green Mountains, with musicians devoting themselves to a week of expanding repertoire, improving technique and overall musicality, listening reverently, learning about adjacent traditions, and connecting with some of Scottish music’s top proponents. Attendees also enjoy afternoon dips in rivers and ponds, laughter and lively conversation over catered dinners, inspiring evening sessions—and, at the end of the week, informal performances at the Student Cèilidh.
