Piping Live! is set to commence in on Monday. If you’re planning to be there for the entire week, get ready for an intense musical experience. The schedule for Monday is jam-packed: featuring world-class solo piping in the Masters competition, a seven-hour-long music extravaganza at the Piping Live! Street Cafe, an RSPBA drumming championship, engaging NPC museum tours, interactive come-and-try piping sessions, a lively BIG pipe band march in Glasgow’s West End, a captivating solo piping performance at Kelvingrove Art Gallery, three pipe bands performing in Buchanan Street, and a choice between two evening events – the Masters MSR Solo Competition, or the avant-garde piping gig with Fraser Fifield, Graeme Stephen and Estonian piper Cätlin Mägi. Hold tight, it’s going to be an eventful start to the week!

The Masters Solo Piping Competition: Piobaireachd

Join the world’s top solo pipers live from The National Piping Centre as they compete in the Piobaireachd event in the Masters Solo Piping Competition.

The best competing pipers of this generation take part in the annual Masters Solo Piping Competition at The National Piping Centre. The overall winner gains qualification to the Glenfiddich Piping Championship.

This is the Piobaireachd section of the Masters. The March, Strathspey and Reel section, will commence upon completion of this Piobaireachd event, at around 5:00pm. 

A separate ticket must be purchased to attend the MSR performances.

The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (Glasgow and The West Branch) presents a new solo drumming competition.

Join the The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (Glasgow and The West Branch) for the second annual British Adult Solo Drumming Championship presenting the best solo drummers in the world as they compete over the day at The NPC Otago Street. 

This is one of a series of  solo drumming events which acts as a qualifying event for the World Solo Drumming Championship, taking place this October.

This event is promoted by the RSPBA Glasgow and West of Scotland Branch.

Piping Live! 2023 Big Band

The Piping Live! Big Band will return for its sixth showcase at this year’s festival

On Monday 14th August, at 12noon, 150 pipers will gather, ranging from young learners playing their chanters, to seasoned professionals playing the pipes in their retirement. The Big Band will walk the streets of Glasgow performing a repertoire of tunes that everyone can play. The Piping Live! Big Band is open to anyone who plays a practice chanter, bagpipes, snare, bass or tenor drum, or is a drum major! All ages are welcome. Past events welcomed musicians aged 8-86.

Heat one of our fantastic Under 21 solo piping competition.

Pipe Idol is back for 2023! Competitors will perform a set including a hornpipe and jig, a March, Strathspey and Reel and a medley of tunes between 5 – 7 minutes long, this will showcase the best young pipers in the worl. With 4 competitors each day, one winner will be selected to go through the the grand final which takes place on Thursday 17th August.

Malin makes Music is the stage name of composer, Musical Director, bagpipe and fiddle player Malin Lewis

Young traditional musician of the year finalist 2022, their music is inspired by everything they are exposed to in life. Malin plays a set of unique self-made two octave Smallpipes that are opening up new possibilities for piping.

Their sound has been described as ‘Beautiful and raw’ and ‘a breath of fresh air’.
